About the Community:

Situated on the shores of Saint Mary’s Bay in the Acadien region, the Municipality of Clare is home to the largest Acadian community in Nova Scotia where over 75% of its residents speak both French and English. Clare is renowned for its joie de vivre and its vibrant Acadian culture, from the popular Musique de la Baie kitchen parties, Le Festival acadien de Clare, Les beaux vendredis seafood suppers, and more recently, the Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie cycling experience.

In 2019, the Municipality of Clare was chosen among 13 other Francophone minority communities across Canada as a welcoming Francophone community. Communauté francophone accueillante de Clare is a partnership between the Municipality of Clare and La Société acadienne de Clare. The $697,887 project over three years aims to contribute to making the community of Clare more welcoming for all and to ensure that all members of the community have a positive attitude towards new immigrants, including those who wish to settle in French.

The Festival Acadien de Clare (the oldest Acadian festival in the world!) has always been a celebration of Acadian culture and heritage. Thousands of people from all over the world gather in Saint Mary’s Bay every year for a week filled with activities for all ages, like the lumberjack competition, the parade, the bazaar and so much more!
