Locum Opportunity | Obstetrics & Gynecology | Southern Ontario
Our client, a community hospital in Southern Ontario, is seeking a Locum Obstetrics & Gynecology Physician to provide coverage within a collaborative obstetrical and gynecologic program.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Obstetrician/Gynecologist looking for flexible locum coverage in a well-supported community hospital environment.
Obstetrical & Gynecology Program
The program provides comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to the surrounding region and includes:
- Level 1B Obstetrical Unit
- Approximately 250 births annually, with opportunity for program growth
- 10-bed obstetrical unit with 4 Labour & Delivery beds and 6 flexible beds
- 24/7 anesthesia coverage
- Well-Baby Clinic located within the obstetrical unit
- Women’s Health & Reproductive Clinic operating twice monthly
- Established community Obstetrics & Gynecology physicians and interdisciplinary support
Locum Coverage
The locum physician will provide 24-hour on-call coverage for obstetrical and gynecologic care, with handover at 8:00 a.m.
The role includes:
- Obstetrical and gynecologic call coverage
- Inpatient obstetrical and gynecologic care
- C-section coverage as required
- Support for the obstetrical service
- Collaboration with midwives and Family Medicine Obstetrics physicians
Elective OR time and clinics are excluded from the locum coverage, and individual OHIP billing services are excluded under the locum arrangement.
Compensation
Compensation is provided through the applicable Obstetrics & Gynecology Alternate Payment Plan (APP).
- $2,500 guaranteed per 24-hour on-call shift
- $3,000 per 24-hour on-call shift on statutory holidays
- $2,000 for OB-only coverage
- Additional compensation through the applicable Locum Rate, Shadow Billing and HOCC arrangements
- Payments made by electronic funds transfer (EFT)
Accommodation & Travel
Accommodation:
- On-site sleep room available near the obstetrical unit
- Nearby lodging provided whenever possible, preferably within walking distance
- Alternative lodging may be considered when nearby accommodation is unavailable
Travel:
- ≤200 km round trip within Ontario: $100 flat rate
- 200 km: $0.60/km, capped at $250 per round trip
- Physicians travelling from outside Ontario: reimbursement for the most economical mode of transportation, such as economy train or rental car
Strong Clinical Support
The locum physician will work alongside a well-supported interdisciplinary team, including:
- 4 Midwives
- 4 Family Medicine Obstetrics physicians
- Dedicated program leadership
- Obstetrical Registered Nurses
- Ward Clerk support
- OR pre-op support
- Physician assist
- RNFA/RN/RPN and clerical support
- FMOB support for newborn care
- Epic informatics support
- Nurse educator
Midwives may also require physician support for C-section services.
Qualifications
Candidates must be:
- Certified or eligible for certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology in Canada
- American Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
