Position Description:
Our client in Fredericton, New Brunswick is seeking an Anatomical Pathologist. Candidates must hold an M.D. or equivalent, be eligible for medical licensure in New Brunswick, have postgraduate training / qualifications in Anatomical or General Pathology. Subspecialty training or experience in Hematopathology is preferred. Applicants should hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Position Summary:
To provide anatomic pathology services including surgical and post-mortem pathology and cytology; some aspects of hematology interpretation are optional.

Reporting Relationship:
Reports to the Chief/Medical Director of Laboratory Medicine for clinical and quality of care matters and to the Medical Director – Fredericton Area for contractual matters.

Job Duties:

  • Provide and/or oversee grossing and microscopic interpretations of surgical pathology cases in a timely fashion.
  • Provide gross and microscopic interpretations of hospital post-mortems in a timely fashion.
  • Provide gross and microscopic interpretations of type I sudden and unexpected death pathology in a timely fashion.
  • Interpret cytology specimens in a timely fashion.
  • Bone marrow specimens and other hematologic interpretations are optional.
  • Participates in the after-hours on-call rota of the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
  • Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate. 
  • Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
  • Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values and strategic directions.
  • Other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Medical Director of the Regional Laboratory.

(Note: These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of the hospital.)

Hours of Work:

  • Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week during 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • On-call coverage is 24 hours when on call

Remuneration:

  • Alternative Funding Plan (AFP)
  • Remuneration for the position is based on New Brunswick Medicare’s Alternate Funding Plan (AFP

  • Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or acceptable equivalent.
  •  Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
  • Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Good attendance and work record.
  • Physically able to perform assigned duties.
Incentives:
  • $50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service. 
  • Up to $8,000.00 in moving expenses.
Other Requirements:
  • Attend appropriate CME/CPD events to meet the educational requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, the Medical Services Payment Act, and their regulations.
  • Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
  • Follow the Code of Ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the Canadian Medical Association.
