Emergency Medicine Physician
Our client is seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician to join a collegial and well-supported Emergency Department in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a collaborative team while enjoying a flexible schedule, strong specialist support, and a balanced practice environment.
The opportunity
Join a collaborative Emergency Department team of 13 physicians who share responsibility for providing high-quality emergency care and maintaining the department schedule. The group offers a supportive, collegial culture with a strong emphasis on teamwork and shared clinical decision-making. The department is recruiting 1 full-time physician, with flexibility for part-time candidates.
Compensation model
Physicians are compensated through an Alternative Funding Arrangement (AFA) blended model, which combines a guaranteed hourly rate with shadow billing for OHIP-insured services. This Ontario emergency medicine funding model provides stable income while recognizing clinical activity, allowing physicians to focus on patient care with reduced billing variability compared to a traditional fee-for-service model. Compensation is provided under the hospital’s AFA agreement.
Schedule and shifts
Physicians typically work 8–10 eight-hour shifts per month, with coverage distributed across a variety of daytime, evening, and overnight shifts:
- Day 1: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Day 2: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Afternoon 1: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Afternoon 2: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Night: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
The department is open to 1.0 FTE physicians covering 8–10 shifts per month or two part-time physicians sharing the schedule. This flexibility makes the position ideal for physicians seeking a sustainable workload, portfolio career, or work-life balance.
