Emergency Medicine Physician
Position Description:
The Miramichi Regional Hospital Emergency Department is actively seeking a permanent full-time emergency medicine physician.
The Miramichi Regional Hospital is a 161-bed hospital with a full range of primary care and specialty services, including: family medicine, general and orthopedic surgery, internal medicine and intensive care, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, anesthesia and pathology. We are located 90 mins from a Level II Trauma center (Moncton City Hospital).
Our department offers 8 hour shifts with double coverage from 11:30-21:00 daily. The full time position will require 3-4 shifts per week, with excellent flexibility for specific scheduling needs and vacation requests.
Financial Details:
- Remuneration is based on an average sessional rate of $205/hour. Full time physicians who take 6 weeks vacation typically gross $300,000+ per year.
- The government of New Brunswick currently offers a rural recruitment incentive of $80,000 for a 4-year return of service.
- The Horizon Health Authority offers a relocation incentive starting at $8000.
- The New Brunswick Medical Society offers a retention program and generous CMPA and CME reimbursements.
Additional Opportunities:
- Teaching experiences with medical students (longitudinal integrated clerkship site) and residents (emergency medicine residency program rural site)
- Assistance with attaining faculty appointments with the Department of Emergency Medicine at both Dalhousie and Memorial University
- Support to physicians with some ER experience who wish to expand to a dedicated ER career will be provided. Our experienced staff will provide on-shift guidance and advice regarding further educational opportunities
- Assistance to apply for the EM Review CCFP-EM exam prep course will be provided to those who are interested

Qualifications:
- A medical degree is required
- Specialized training in Emergency Medicine
- Eligible for an unsupervised licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick
- ATLS and ACLS certification
- Proficiency in English; bilingual skills would be considered an asset
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills
- Good attendance and work record
- Physically able to perform assigned duties
