Our client, a forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary referral and teaching hospital in Northern Ontario, is seeking a General Surgeon to join their dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a healthcare institution that is committed to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. Physicians will work within a collaborative environment, guided by trauma-informed and culturally safe practices, while helping to fulfill the hospital's mission: Providing Exemplary Care to Northerners. 

 

The physician will join a team of three general surgeons, with equitable access to operating room time and reasonable on-call expectations. Our client facilitates over 1,500 inpatient and 2,500 day surgeries annually. Additionally, there is an opportunity to teach and mentor medical students and family medicine residents through an affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. You will be joining a team dedicated to providing exceptional, patient- and family-centered care in a supportive environment.”

 

Remuneration:

  • Fee-for-Service 

  • Northern Specialist Alternate Payment Plan

  • HOCC On-Call stipend. 

 

Incentives:

  • Incentive package up to $60,000 over four years.

  • Applicants are eligible for a repayable interest-free loan up to $150,000.

  • Applicants can apply for the Ministry of Health Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (N3R). The N3R Initiative includes an $84,718 incentive over a 4-year period for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who establish a full-time practice.

 

Locum Benefits:

  • Your travel expenses, including airfare, mileage, local car rental, accommodations, and a travel honorarium, will be reimbursed in accordance with NSLP guidelines

  • Compensation of $2,252.80 per day, in accordance with HFO Guidelines for the Northern Specialist Locum Program.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Medical Degree with specialist training in General Surgery 

  • Eligible for independent license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

    • Have Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in General Surgery

    • Holding full license in another Canadian province.

    • US Board Certified physicians are eligible for an independent license in Ontario.

  • Have (or be eligible to obtain) Canadian Medical Protective Associate (CMPA) coverage.

  • Have a commitment to patient safety and high standards of care.
