Psychiatrists – Ontario – permanent, FT, PT or locum
Acute Care Psychiatric/Mental Health Services are provided at our clients Hospital as a Schedule One facility under the Mental Health Act. The mental health program includes inpatient, outpatient, transitional outpatient care, emergency services, consultations, and educational services to the community. In addition to the Schedule One services, our spectrum of care includes an Assertive Community Treatment Team, outpatient psychotherapy services and a Crisis Centre. Our Psychiatry team provides 24-hour call coverage.
Our client is seeking a psychiatrist who is prepared to work or cross-cover through the full range of our mental health services. We are a highly collegial, collaborative team committed to working together to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve while maintaining a healthy, enjoyable work environment in which our psychiatrists continue to learn from and support each other. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The department is attached to the Department of Psychiatry and Queens University as an Academic Unit and provides training to residents and students
We have 1,800 staff members and 400 medical staff who provide a wide range of high quality health care services to a region of 160,000 residents. Care is provided through four regional hospitals and includes four emergency departments, operating rooms at three sites, inpatient services (including acute medicine, intensive care, obstetrics, paediatrics, mental health, complex continuing care, rehabilitation and surgery), a rehabilitation day hospital, children’s treatment centre, ambulatory care clinics, community mental health programs, and a range of diagnostic services. We are located in south-eastern Ontario.

Qualifications:
- Medical Degree with specialist training in Psychiatry.
- Certification or eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. (FRCPC)
- Eligible for independent license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario by:
- Hold American Board Certification in Psychiatry.
- Holding full license in another Canadian province.
- Have Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Psychiatry.
- Eligible to hold an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
- US Board certified physicians are eligible for an independent license in Ontario.
- Have (or be eligible to obtain) Canadian Medical Protective Associate (CMPA) coverage.
- Have a commitment to patient safety and high standards of care.
Remuneratiion
Physicians are engaged as independent contractors and are compensated through established Ontario physician funding models, which may include Fee-for-Service (FFS), Alternate Funding Arrangements (AFA), and other applicable billing structures.
Psychiatry remuneration is supported through a combination of Fee-for-Encounter (FFE) and additional funding streams. Full details of the funding model will be outlined by the Chief of Psychiatry during discussions.
On average, a full-time psychiatrist can expect annual earnings of $400,000+, based on a mix of inpatient work, on-call responsibilities, and hospital-based clinics. This estimate does not include income from independent or community-based practice.
As physicians are independent contractors, traditional employee benefits (e.g., health and dental benefits) are not provided, and physicians are responsible for arranging their own coverage.
Eligible specialists may also qualify for a City of Belleville recruitment incentive of up to $75,000, subject to a five-year return-of-service commitment.
