Psychiatrist – Full Time – Ottawa Valley

Located one and a half hours west of Ottawa, our client delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services to a mixed urban and rural population of approximately 100,000 residents in the Upper Ottawa Valley.

The hospital is situated on the shores of the Ottawa River close to Algonquin Park and provides an array of diagnostic and specialist services. Clinical programs include: emergency medicine, internal medicine, hospitalist services, ICU, mental health, rehabilitation, anesthesiology, obstetrics/gynecology, and surgical services including general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, urology and orthopedic surgery. A full array of diagnostic and laboratory services are available. Medical imaging services include CT, MRI, ultrasound, x-ray, fluoroscopy, and nuclear medicine.

The hospital is a designated District Stroke Center level 3 ICU that is staffed by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team including intensivists, nurses, and respiratory therapists with access to all other allied health specialists. We are also the orthopedic hub for the Renfrew County.

The mental health program at the hospital is comprised of comprehensive outpatient services including a psychiatric clinic, Assertive Community Treatment Team, Community Mental Health case management, crisis team and social work counselling services.  We also have a 15 bed non schedule 1 Acute Mental Health Unit. We are affiliated with the University of Ottawa and local family medicine residents complete their core psychiatry training here.

There are currently two full time members in the Department of Psychiatry, and we are interested in expanding our services by recruiting one full time Psychiatrist who would be involved in inpatient and outpatient care. 

Position Requirements:

  • Full independent registration with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) 

  • Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada – FRCP (C) in Psychiatry

  • Physicians with Royal College Approved Jurisdiction eligibility eligible for a supervised license with the CPSO.

  • Physicians that have successfully completed the RCPSC specialty examination via the RCPSC Practice Eligibility Route and hold the MCCQE1 exam are eligible for a supervised license with the CPSO.

  • Remuneration is based on fee for service billings plus HOCC (Hospital on Call Coverage) stipend. Additional grant funding is available through the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative.
