Getting ready to move and work in Canada can be quite an overwhelming process and I honestly don’t think that it would have happened as quickly or as smoothly if it wasn’t for Phil Jost. I moved over from the UK on my own in 2008, but Phil was there for me every step of the way. From the very first telephone conversation he was able to assess my credentials and provide me with accurate information with regards to licensing and where I could practice as a family physician in Canada. Michelle: You will recall that I responded to an urgent request for an anesthesia locum in Gander, NL that was put out through Canam Recruiting last summer. After an initial conversation with John Philpott, I agreed to take on the job for the month of July. There was a short timeline to get licensure and privileges organized and I found your help invaluable in getting things done in order to start in Gander on July 2. Considering that this was a fast-track application for licensure in Newfoundland, the process was still quite labour intensive and time consuming and without your help in dealing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, I don’t think that we would have met the deadline to get me in place for that start date. I am a Family Physician from the UK and got interested in relocating to Ontario. Not to anybody’s surprise, the process of getting licensed by CPSO was so very complicated – requiring endless paperwork, finding a supervisor and satisfying many criteria. While I was hunting for jobs in Ontario, one morning, my wife accidentally came across Hedi Cameron’s ( of CamAm Physician Recruiting) details and I emailed her with my queries. My name is Leszek Swica, I am Canadian trained and Royal College certified anesthesiologist. Following completion of my residency training at the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia I worked for 13 years at the Aberdeen Regional Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. In November 2011 administration cancelled the local anesthesia contract agreement and I decided to look for another place of employment.
