Getting ready to move and work in Canada can be quite an overwhelming process and I honestly don’t think that it would have happened as quickly or as smoothly if it wasn’t for Phil Jost. I moved over from the UK on my own in 2008, but Phil was there for me every step of the way. From the very first telephone conversation he was able to assess my credentials and provide me with accurate information with regards to licensing and where I could practice as a family physician in Canada. Michelle: You will recall that I responded to an urgent request for an anesthesia locum in Gander, NL that was put out through Canam Recruiting last summer. After an initial conversation with John Philpott, I agreed to take on the job for the month of July. There was a short timeline to get licensure and privileges organized and I found your help invaluable in getting things done in order to start in Gander on July 2. Considering that this was a fast-track application for licensure in Newfoundland, the process was still quite labour intensive and time consuming and without your help in dealing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, I don’t think that we would have met the deadline to get me in place for that start date. I have to say that it was worth dealing with all the paperwork to get the Sask License. The last 7 weeks was fantastic. I have sooooo many great pictures that it is difficult to make a photo album without making it boringly long. I am on call now, so I am not travelling anywhere this weekend, but I drove more than 7000 km in the area already. The Rockies are amazing, the local flora and fauna is wonderful, fishing is great. Two days ago I caught a pike weighing 6 pound seven ounces in addition to a 2 pound walleye, a couple weeks earlier another walleye and a few perches, so I did not have any difficulty supplying my kitchen with fish. The job was pleasant, with the exception of one bad weekend I never felt tired. I would not mind coming back here if they happen to need locum services in the future. I plan on staying in Cyprus till about mid December, but plans do change.

My name is Leszek Swica, I am Canadian trained and Royal College certified anesthesiologist. Following completion of my residency training at the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia I worked for 13 years at the Aberdeen Regional Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. In November 2011 administration cancelled the local anesthesia contract agreement and I decided to look for another place of employment. Following recommendation of my anesthesia colleague I contacted Mr. John Philpott from CanAm Physician Recruiting. In his recruitment effort Mr. Philpott was looking for the place that would match my training, work experience, carrier goals and would also give me financial stability. He identified a vacant position at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan which was not advertised in medical journals or recruitment web sites. Mr. Philpott was very efficient in his search and brought to my attention the fact that there was another strong candidate looking seriously at this place. Following his advice I went ASAP for the site visit in Swift Current. I received the job offer and I signed my present contract agreement at the time of that site visit in March 2012. Thanks to Mr. Philpott I found a great place to work and live. The Cypress Regional Hospital has a very professional work environment and friendly relations between OR staff and members of other departments. Physicians are very well looks after and enjoy good working relations with the local administration. The Cypress Health Region has the Family Medicine training programme affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan. As a preceptor of the residents having anesthesia rotations I was appointed a Clinical Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. I find my teaching activities to be very exciting, professionally stimulating and refreshing. Town of Swift Current has a population size, life style and all amenities very similar to Pictou County in Nova Scotia where I lived and worked until April 2012. Province of Saskatchewan has a strong and booming economy. Saskatchewan Medical Association enjoys very good working contacts with the provincial government and is able to negotiate good working conditions and competitive income for its members. I would like to thank John for his efforts in recruiting physicians to St. Johnâs, NL. The main reason I accepted the job in St. Johnâs is the because of the great family atmosphere. I believe that John Philipottâ choice of his local agent Natalie Davis, could not be better. She was absolutely amazing. She managed to bond with my family immediately…and I mean at the airport arrival section! She took care of us like family (and this was what I was looking for). I had no problem after that to convince my wife that St. John’s was the place to be. I felt like she was my own personal manager. She accompanied me to the places I needed to be and paved the usually slow process of employment and registration with the different required agencies in record time.
